Project Highlight: Kalamazoo Valley Gleaners Paint-It-Forward Project

September 26, 2024

Every year, PMV provides free painting services as a way to give back to the community. This year, we had an opportunity to help Kalamazoo Valley Gleaners repaint the outside of their building. It was a big project, but we were excited to put our skills and expertise to work for this local nonprofit and support their mission.

Supporting Gleaner’s Mission of Feeding the Hungry

Kalamazoo Valley Gleaners is on a mission to feed the hungry and share the love of Jesus. They work with local farmers to gather cosmetically imperfect produce. Volunteers help wash, chop, dehydrate, and package the produce. That food then goes overseas to feed malnourished people.

Kalamazoo Valley Gleaners has a goal to serve 15 million meals annually. Reaching this goal will require community partnerships and support. When we heard about their mission and current needs, we immediately saw a way we could help: by repainting the exterior of their building.

Painting the Building’s Exterior

Kalamazoo Valley Gleaners operates out of a 23,000 sq ft building. The building is where volunteers work to prep the produce. It also houses industrial equipment to dehydrate and package the food.

Before we started painting, a team from Mulder Waterproofing power washed the outside of the building to prep the surface for paint. Then, a crew of four PMV painters spent five days painting the building’s exterior. We applied one coat of primer and two finish coats.

Sherwin-Williams generously donated the paint we used for this project.

The results are stunning! We’re so excited to help this great organization by lending our expertise.
